It’s now the 90s and here we revisit our principle character in the form of an ageing, if not still active Maurice Stone, his up and coming apprentice, the dashing criminal advocate Tom Price and the seductive matrimonial lawyer Lisa Simpkin - now in association with the top spy busting Special Branch Chief Superintendent in the form of the erstwhile John Maskill and local police inspector John Howard. Patriots? promises an exhilarating return and vivid continuation of existing themes, played out throughout the Life Amid Crisis series, and later explored in The Trojan Horse.
Following on from Sad Boys on the Rampage, Justice Denied, and Who Killed the Goose…? we now find ourselves back in Belfield, no more than a few weeks following the devastating 7/7 attack on London. Was this very outrage going to be a sign of things to come?
Was the future going to herald a period of peace and prosperity for the lawyers at Maurice Stone & Price? Maybe. Or were they all destined to experience yet another struggle for them to rediscover their own identities and, more particularly, whether they would have to grapple with the usual problems along their torturous way in order to be able to make ends meet?
